The Movie Car LIFE…

And so, the life of the MOVIE CAR continues….

I came into CVS a little while back to see something I hadn’t seen in a few years. The car I did for the film SON OF THE MASK was built in Australia over a Holden Monaro. The film was shot there, then the car was shipped to the US for promotional purposes. I did that for several months (The LA Auto Show) and it was then put into storage by New Line Cinema. At the time, an undisclosed location in Sun Valley.

I tried to buy the car back then until it disappeared. Took about a year of investigation to find out where it waent. Since 2005, it’s been collecting dust with many other famous movie props in the warehouse. Things like the Big Monkey my wife built for THE GRINCH and lots of stuff from THE FLINTSTONES.

2 weeks ago, everything that had belonged to New Line was removed by Warner Bros, since the former was bought out by the latter. The Muscle Car was trucked to CVS for the weekend where I snapped these (see the Flintstones Car in the mirror?) and then brought to Warner Bros Studios where it will reside in their Museum. Now, did you know that you could take a tour at the WB??

What you’ll find there in the next couple of weeks is what you see above plus many more. So, call WB if you want to take a tour and check out these rides up close. It’s a day of fun for sure. You’ll get to take a spin down the BLADE RUNNER street as well.

These are the coolest cars on the PLANET…

Now, what you see here may be nonsense, but these have been touted as SMART CAR OVERALL BODY KITS. Are they real is anyone’s guess until I investigate more. But, ARE THEY FRIKKIN’ COOL, OR WHAT!!???

I’m seriously thinking about playing with the Smart Car soon, and things like this make them highly unusual, but we’ll see. But with names like SMARVETTE, SMERRARI, SMARCHE, SMARBORGHINI, and ELESMART I’m collecting every one! (I wonder if they come Blisterpacked??)

If anyone finds more info, shoot it to me!

Exotic car made of WOOD…

I’ve seen cool cars before, but this is right up there… Talk about creating a fish out of water. This is from inspired thought…

“Joe Harmon, a graduate student at NC State, took on a very ambitious graduate project: building a high-performance, mid-engine super car from wood. “Splinter” could top 240 mph when completed later this year, and wood will be used in its construction wherever possible, including…” MORE HERE.

Not so kid-like DESIGN…

Spent the better part of this morning at the newly formed TRANSPORTATION DESIGN and TECHNICAL INSTITUTE. A small up-and-coming design school for Inner City Kids in Culver City run by my friends John and DJ. Between the ages of 14-17. I go in every now and then to look over the cool stuff that’s coming out and try to get them to think outside of the normal scope of design. They also had the help from some of top designers and Honda and VW.

But this weekend was the finals… And these were NOT the kids I saw the last time I was there! These kids knocked my socks off!! And they were designing cool cars!

There were a lot of unique concepts, strong modern day interpretations and excellent execution. Especially the pink muscle car. (Nice!) Small package, big power… just how I like it.

I was really impressed with all of them. If you’re interested in getting your kids involved, contact John Mitsumi @ 310 396 8601.

Weekend INSANITY…

Off to San Francisco we went on Thursday. 7 hours up from LA. And all the while, I got the sense that cars were following me. Not on the freeway, mind you, but everywhere I showed up,… cool cars appeared.

We stopped for some joe in Pismo Beach. Great place called “The Honeymoon Cafe,” right on the strip. Extremely well themed place and great coffee. A must see. Then, back on the freeway where cool cars emerged again. Jaguars, Lotus, all kinds. Within a few hours, I was at CLUB SPORTIVA for a cool talk about Exotics. A blast meeting everyone and talking about design philosophies. My doggies, Bug and Sammy liked the Ferrari F430, paws down.

Then, off we went to Napa for some wine tasting… IN A BENTLEY! (Courtesy of Club Sportiva, of course!) We got to taste cool vino and drive a ridiculously cool car there. But before we hit the wineries, we snagged some lunch in downtown Napa… WHERE THERE JUST HAPPENED TO BE A CAR SHOW, DOH!! So, all the while chowing, we got to check out MORE cool cars. And the desserts at the restaurant, (Tuscany) were pretty dang yummy, too. (That’s my son’s girlfriend, Isla, about to take a bite of her CHOCOLATE CUP!

After lunch, we headed to Kathie’s favorite winery BV, 20 minutes north of Napa. Merlot is her drink of drinks, so everyone (but me!) did the tasting. I just drove the Bentley… poor me. SICK!!!

The next morning, before returning the BIG BEAST back to Club Sportiva, we hit Fort Point for some coffee again and… A 140 SMART CARS SHOWED UP!!! YIKES!!! And boy, did they get in trouble for not having a “I’M GOING TO GO SEE THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE IN MY SMARTCAR PERMIT.”

  1. Go to San Fran, ’cause it’s beautiful. Or anywhere beautiful.

  2. Go in a cool car, ’cause life is short.

  3. Drink good coffee, taste some good wine,… unless you’re the designated Jeeves.

  4. Enjoy yourself. Life is too short to waste time not doing what you love.

…And don’t give me any of that “I can’t afford to do this kind of stuff” nonsense. You CAN’T AFFORD NOT TO. There is ALWAYS a way. My whole trip? About $1000. It took me about 4 months to save that in a coffee can once…

MINI Takes The States WRAP UP…

So much fun seeing everyone. Took a while for me to upload these as my computer had serious gas…

Big thanks to everyone who helped us out, but especially to MINI (SuperPrez Jim McDowell Pictured) for putting on such a great event. And to Reactor for keeping us, uh, well timed… And GO RIDEMAKERZ!!

Doesn’t Howie look cute with that Bulldog? Wait, which one IS Howie??

As a side note, I’m really surprised at how well “THE HOLLYWOOD CAR SHOW” has been received. We’ve gotten a tremendously positive response and tripled our numbers, so we’ll do our best to keep it up. Just wanted to say “Thanks” to all who’v listened!

As a second side note… My dog, Sammy has just eaten her leash off,… so I gotta go!!

Knight Rider KITT REVEALED…

Another great creation from CINEMA VEHICLE SERVICES. A lot of concepts were done for this one including what you see here. The “ATTACK KITT” was revealed at the 2008 Comic Con in San Diego. Let’s hope the show looks as good, eh?
