The LOSS is the WIN… from The Daily Driver Project

The loss is the win. How does that work? How can you lose and still win?

You have to look at everything you do as a learning experience. Where you will find some of your largest learning experiences… is when you fail or lose at something.

The human brain always tracks things that are painful and a loss or failure is painful to people. It’s instilled in us so we won’t do it again. Think about yourself as a child. That first time you touched that hot pan or cut your finger on something, you learned not to do it again.

I fail all the time. Most photographers and video makers fail in one way or another. It can be a small failure or a huge one. The photo you thought was going to be awesome is out of focus or someone walked into the shot. Things happen all the time, but you learn from them and expand your knowledge to make these things not happen.

One of my largest ones happened a couple of years ago.

I wasn’t checking to make sure my computer was backing up my work and it crashed. I lost a months worth of show coverage in a blink of an eye. I check to make sure things are backing up all the time now. I learned from the loss. I made that loss a win by learning from that failure to change my behavior to check the system on a regular basis.

You have to be open to that loss to make it a win, a learning experience to grow, modify your ideas and behaviors.

Make that loss a win.
