JONATHAN BANKS CELEBRITY DRIVE! – FIREBALL MALIBU VLOG 622 – Fireball entertains the likes of Actor Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul) and his wife at The Automobile Driving Museum. This episode includes a Packard Carribean and a Studebaker Wagon.

More about Johnny from WIKI… Jonathan Ray Banks is an American actor. His first notable film roles were in the films Airplane!, 48 Hrs., and Beverly Hills Cop.

He has received critical acclaim for his role as Mike Ehrmantraut in the television series Breaking Bad and its spin-off, Better Call Saul, as well as Frank McPike in Wiseguy. He has received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

In 1974, Banks moved to Los Angeles and performed on stage before picking up bit parts on television. He notably starred in the 1974 sex PSA Linda’s Film on Menstruation, which was referenced by John Oliver in an episode of his show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver focusing on sex education.

The episode aired on August 9, 2015, and Banks appeared at the end of the segment, ridiculing the content of said PSA. He co-starred in 48 Hrs. and #BeverlyHillsCop, which are among his best known roles.

Other film roles include appearances in Armed and Dangerous, Buckaroo Banzai, Freejack, Flipper, Airplane!, Gremlins, Murder Me, Murder You, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, and Identity Thief.

Banks’ big break on television came in 1987 with the series Wiseguy, in which he played Frank McPike for four years, a role which led to a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. Although his character was primarily the hero’s mentor, stories occasionally featured McPike as hero.

In 1981, he appeared as Dutch Schultz on the NBC series the Gangster Chronicles. He also starred on the short-lived science fiction series Otherworld, as Kommander Nuveen Kroll, and in the sitcom Fired Up.

In the second season of #BreakingBad, Banks appeared as #MikeEhrmantraut. He became a series regular for the third, fourth, and fifth seasons.

For the fifth season, he received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. He also made guest appearances on several TV shows.

In 2014, he had a recurring role as Buzz Hickey in the fifth season of the NBC sitcom Community.[12] Banks reprised his role as Mike Ehrmantraut as a regular in the Breaking Bad spinoff series #BetterCallSaul, for which he earned his third Emmy nomination in season 1.

In April 2016, he was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from Indiana University.

He also played the voice of James Gordon in the 2015 video game Batman: Arkham Knight. In 2015, Banks made a special guest appearance on the Mythbusters episode “Supernatural Shooters”.

What’s it like to drive a 1947 FORD 1-TON?

If I haven’t said it before, my job is the coolest job on the planet.

I spend my days with great people and talkin’ cars. I travel everywhere, shoot my silly show and see some of the most awesome cars this side of Andromeda.

Today is no different, which is why Malibu’s Mike McKean and his 1947 Ford 1-Ton is this week’s Ride of the Week.

Mike’s been a resident of Malibu for about eight years and is a retired fire captain/paramedic from the Santa Monica Fire Department with a whopping 38-year active career under his belt.

We all know that firemen are the nicest guys on the planet, right? So meeting up with Mike forced me to keep my grin goin’ for a permanent hour — now it’s stuck.

Mike’s pride and joy is his Fire Engine red 1947 Ford 1-Ton panel truck.

“I bought it at a Concours Auto Show at Malibu Bluffs Park about 10 years ago,” Mike said. “Stopped at the show kind of by accident while on a Harley ride up the Coast Highway with an old fireman buddy. Saw the truck while in the hospitality tent having a beverage.”

This would be the love-at-first-sight part, folks.

“I’ve always liked panel trucks since my high school surfing days in the south bay, but never had owned one,” he said. “So, I went outside to look at it and asked the guy who owned it if any trucks like these ever come up for sale? He said ‘Well, this one here is for sale.’ I asked if it ran, and he said ‘Sure, I just drove it down from Ojai this morning!’”

So Mike had the guy start it up, and it sounded great. The truck has been re-powered with a 283 small block Chevy, automatic transmission, 12-volt electrical system, stereo, CD player and new brake system to boot.

The next thing Mike knew, he was outside giving the dude a cash deposit.

“My dad had recently passed away,” he continued. “I had a few extra bucks and I knew my dad would have loved it.”

They completed the deal the following Saturday around midday at Neptune’s Net and Mike knew right away he had made an awesome choice. The truck was surrounded by several people taking photos and he felt great driving away with everyone honking and waving as he cruised away down Pacific Coast Highway.

The truck had been restored over the years by a famous motorcycle and auto shop owner named Rusty Kay from the old section of Santa Monica. Rusty had recently passed away and his widow was especially happy to see the truck pass on to someone with a long history of being connected to Santa Monica.

And that brings up a good point, as in providing homes for stray cars. Maybe there should be a Car Shelter where they get taken care of and fed, in line for the right owner to come in, give them a pet, and drive them home?

“I’ve taken the truck on several surf trips as far as San Onofre and also driven to (and entered) many antique car shows from Camarillo, Pomona, Santa Paula and Westlake Village,” Mike said.

A fairly well-known car collector/restorer in the Torrance/Gardena area checked it out and confirmed that this 1947 1-ton model is probably the last of its kind.

Mike drives it occasionally from north Malibu on the nice days on PCH and he still get a lot of satisfaction from the waves and honks. See how easy it is to just feel good here in Malibu?

The bottom line, folks: If the goal of life really is to just feel good, then we’re 99 percent ahead of everyone else in this country. Choose something cool to fill your life with.

Be like Mike and turn that frown upside down, permanently.

Give goodness and goodness comes, sometimes a whopping 1-ton of it.

Hot Rod cruise to Malibu…

I have one childhood friend. And his name is Mike. We go way back to 7th grade and… we both love cars. We caused a lot of trouble with them and could tell you things that would land us in jail. But that’s another story…

So, Mike took it upon himself to collect something bigger than a Johnny Lightning. He bought a 1931 Ford Model A Tudor. Well, not really. He actually bought a lot of Model A pieces and for the last 2 years, built this gorgeous vehicular contraption. And it’s awesome.

The greatest gift you can give someone is an experience they’ll never forget. And that’s exactly what Mike did for me today. He drove that little Black and Green beast all the way from Irwindale to Malibu. For the first time… on surface streets. When he arrived, we went over the car and all the great stories that made up how he built it. Hand painted in stipple. His boys wrenching… and they’re 7. The brand new Cokers that came in the mail. Where he found the car.

Then… we went for coffee. Up into hoyty toyty Malibu. And you shoulda seen the faces. If I had a dollar for every smile…

Cars bring people together. Adding happiness to the world. And bring peace among people. Thanks, Mike. My buddy always.
