What kind of image makes you stop and gasp? A relaxed sort of exhaltation, I suppose.
The LA Auto Show starts this Friday and the anticipation is high for things of beauty. Sometimes I just stop and soak up new form, almost not realizing I’m doing it. And what comes from that moment lost?
…Inspiration.
That’s why I like car shows. Like a surfer trying to find the perfect wave, always on the search, knowing it’s there but not always finding it. That’s what we Automotive Enthusiasts search for, right? The one car that just makes us all weak in the knees. Could be a badass Bentley, an out of control Muscle Car, a modded MINI or anything in between.
I’ll be at the show, hopefully all wobbly in the knees after seeing forms like the above. So worth it. Looking forward to seeing all of you.
What is good design? …Something that inspires you. Make you think, examine and appreciate form. Whether a glass, wallet, your wife or a car, any beautiful form can inspire.
Case in point, Lamborghini’s new 4-Seater, The ESTOQUE and the ARTEGA GT. Fantastic examples of design excellence. Now it’s time to decide who would be driving these cars beside me, and since the 14th brings QUANTUM OF SOLACE, there should be a bad guy rockin’ these cars.
By the time you read this, I’ll be at SEMA in Las Vegas. Stay tuned for what will be crazy ridiculous cars… but for now, here’s more of these two.

Major Ferrari cues wrapped in a four-door package. And since this is a design study, there’s room for unusual resolutions. I like this car for a lot of reasons, but I thought you’d all enjoy to see what’s out there.
I’d call it the FERRARI TIRAMISU 700. …tasty.
If you’re into cars and into Movies as I am, then coming across something like this is cool. They’re pretty good for a T-Shirt, but there’s a lot to choose from. So there’s bound to be something right for anyone. Gives me some good ideas for something else, though. Shhh… Check ‘em out HERE.
Why do people do what they do? Design-wise…
Well, maybe they were dropped on their head, on the hood of a car,… when they were a kid. Maybe they’re overcompensating for a lack of… horsepower, hamburger toppings or milk duds. Who knows. But when you see cars like this, it just makes you go.. hm.
Design is interpretive, right? I mean, not everyone is going to like your ideas. You may think that they are gangbuster concepts, but the dood in the corner thinks “You’re full of bull onies.” What’s a Bull Onie? Well, I’ll get back to that… THE POINT IS, ideas are a dime a dozen. But following through with the idea takes confidence and risk and guts, ’cause, like I said… Not everyone’s gonna dig it. But you know what? THEY DON’T HAVE TO!!!
Case in point, this TRANS AM FERRARI 308. So bad, it hurts. But at the same time, it’s stoopid cool. Did this guy really think that we’d all look at this and say, “Hey man, when I get the dough, I’m gonna get me one a those TRANFORMARRIES.’ I’ll be the coolest dood on the block, yo.”
Hm.
Oh, and Bull Onie? It’s a sandwich meat made of things that aren’t really technically meat. Yum.
Now, what you see here may be nonsense, but these have been touted as SMART CAR OVERALL BODY KITS. Are they real is anyone’s guess until I investigate more. But, ARE THEY FRIKKIN’ COOL, OR WHAT!!???
I’m seriously thinking about playing with the Smart Car soon, and things like this make them highly unusual, but we’ll see. But with names like SMARVETTE, SMERRARI, SMARCHE, SMARBORGHINI, and ELESMART I’m collecting every one! (I wonder if they come Blisterpacked??)
