Fireball SEMA Day 1/2…

FT2VegasSo, into to Vegas I’ve come for COOL CAR SMACKDOWN!

Snuck in to see some of the best rides up close without the crowd since the show opens tomorrow. They weren’t gonna let me in until I told them who I was. Then, they DEFINITELY didn’t want me to come in. So, I jumped the fire encrusted SEMA fence and was nearly captured by vicious cockerpoos. Whew… The first non-surprise is that there was 250,000 Camaros everywhere. Lame. I mean, if you’re going to SEMA, and you want to stand out, then get the car that EVERYONE else will have. Make sense? Not.

But here’s a sneek anyway for what’s coming this week. So far, the rides are smolderin.’ From cool SCIONS from 5Axis to a Nasty Chrome Green FORD FOCUS from ma buddy Gary Watson at CNC. Nice job, G.

Old school, new school, and Detention. Yea.

Fireball’s COOL DESIGNS OF THE WEEK!

Interesting stuff going on. As I write this (and listen to Alter Bridge), I ponder design in general. And that brings me to the question, “What the hell does ponder really mean anyway?” Like, do people really use this word still? I’m Pondering…. Maybe we should send it to the JunkYard for words? Like, “heathen,” “thou,” or maybe “economy.” (If I hear the word economy one more time, I’m gonna start an Uzi revolt.)

Wait.    Ok, where am I? OH! Car Domain!! DESIGN OF THE WEEK!!! RIGHT!!! Here we go…

1. THE BENTLEY MULSANNE

Bentley-Mulsanne

Kinda expensive. Kinda luxurious. Kinda bad gas mileage. BAD ASS. This is the car you want to roll up to the beach in. 9′ Longboard on top. Trunk fulla wetsuits, sexwax and extra bikinis. …I’m just sayin.’

2. THE GT CROSSOVER CONCEPT

GT-Crossover-Concept

What IS this? …Um. …Ok, what can I say about this weird inline 2 seater? It’s kinda not right in a whole “not right” sorta way. BUT, you have to respect design. My cup ‘o hot chocolate may not be your cup o’ hot chocolate. And THIS? Is not my cup o’ hot chocolate.

3. THE LEATHERMAN WRATH

Leatherman-Wrath

I like this, despite that fact that you can’t really tell exactly what it is. Part Cyborg, part Harley, part… hula hoop. It just looks bug-like and cool. And that, my friends, is what belongs on the street. BRING IT!

4. MY REACTOR NUCLEUS

Reactor Nucleus

Now, I just got this the other day from REACTOR. It’s so cool, it should be a car. (In fact, I think there’s a button that transforms it into a Ferrari California. Pretty sure.) But, this watch is a clear statement that automotive design affects ALL design. And that’s cool.

5. THE JAGUAR MARK 21 LIMO

Jaguar-Mark-XXI-Limo

Yes, Limo. And since it doesn’t look ANYTHING like a Jaguar, it’s fair game for my design dissection. But THIS, is the most cool cockroach car I’ve seen in a while. The doors gullwing up and you step inside to Jaguar heaven. And what IS Jaguar heaven? Ahhh,,   …….gggrrrrrrrrrr….

6. SV9 COMPETIZIONE

SV-9-Competizione

Yes, in Italian, SV-9 means CORVETTE. Wait a tick… I think it actually means Bad Corvette. Or maybe Ripoff. I forget. At any rate, the Corvette,… uh, I mean SV-9, looks sweet. So sweet, that it reminds me of a car that the late GM use to build before they imploded. Now,… what WAS the name of that car? It was like a bird, or a fish. Started with a “C,” I think….

Oh, yea. Corvette.

Cool cars on RODEO…

rodeo

What a ridiculously cool day! All days should be like this, not just Father’s Day. The main highlight was the 2009 Rodeo Drive Concours d’ Elegance. Seriously expensive machines… in the sun.

My son Sean, Kathie and I strolled among multi-millions of dollars worth of machines including Delahaye, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Bentley, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Packard, an Electric Cobra, Smarts, Green Vehicles,  Tesal and even a Bentley Chopper. Yea, all cheapies, of course. Let me just take them all, thank you. Even Sean sat in the Lincoln from the TV show “Entourage.”

But on Rodeo, it’s no holds barred. The streets were packed with onlookers… even in the trees. The major highlight of the show was this DDR (Dumb Diamond Ring) on display. At the sheer cheap stupid price of $744,000.00 I mean, come on… Let’s get real. Put something in the window that’s REALLY expensive you bunch a’ lame o’ cheap basterds. What moron got cold feet and stuck the small stone in the window??? Sheesh!

Imagine. Strolling down Rodeo and you “pop” into a wee lil’ store to pick up something for your honey squeeze. A tiny lil’ rock for just under a mil. I’m sorry, but that’s just plain stupid in a really stupid sort of way. What could YOU do with $744,300.00??? Let us begin with making a list of 744,000 things, yo!

But the cars were smokin’ hot.  SO, here we go folks….

Carshow WEEKEND…

Something to look FORWARD to…

dsc02994There’s a lot of things I try to do here on this blog. Talk design, movies, ideas. Things that hopefully inspire some sort of thought that might benefit you guys. Books, places, experiences that I’ve come to appreciate and therefore help those to appreciate what they have.

And that’s the bottom line. You get more of what you concentrate on. Good, Bad, in either case, you’re right. So, why not appreciate the good?

This weekend was interesting. New cars, people, ideas. Saw my buddy, Erik Estrada at the show over the weekend. If I could have gotten him to stop talking, our picture might have been better, but he’s “passionate.” Passionate about life and his fans. (He was there, like me, to sign stuff) And although he was a big star in the 70′s, he stays very busy and does good things for people.

Also saw the new Corvette Centennial close up. Look pretty bitchin.’ What do you guys think? Very aggressive and unique, and we’ll see how it performs in Transformers 2.

Also, been reading a book written in 1897. “In Tune With The Infinite.” A must read if you want more in your life. More “good” things. Not an easy book to find, though, if you want an old copy. And also, not an easy read, but take your time. And since Henry Ford attributes all his success to this book, you might want to check it out.

“Put hatred into the world, and we make it a literal hell. Put love into the world and heaven with all its beauties and glories becomes a reality.”

This is going to be an awesome week…. And you can make it that way, too.
