Thinking about the YEAR…

space-shuttle-copy1

What is it that I’m going to do this year? Projects, people, cars, doodas, shows, books. I’m in concept mode for the next month, but whatever I decide, it has to be fun. Hard work, but fun.

Conceptual inspired thinking is what we humans do best. Whether it’s in the shower, on the pot or driving, ideas show up when you least expect it. These are called “Thoughts of Inspiration” and they are the most important thing in your life.

When you get one, it’s the universe telling you to get off your butt an “act.” So, don’t let it down by saying, “Oh, I’ll do that later.” Do it now… and watch what happens. It’s a message that can’t be avoided, like an open window of opportunity.

So, as I conceptualize, I think I’ll have pasta for dinner. Pesto. Mmm. not THAT’S and opportunity…

Happy 2009…

The future is here… NOW.

manbike

I always wondered what I’d be like in 2010. Well, I think it’s safe to say that I won’t be much different in 1 year. Maybe a couple more white hairs, but all in all, things will be cool. Just like the vehicles, events and doodads I’ll cover here on this DESIGN BLOG.

The future is cool because it’s always changing, ever in motion. You ever hear the saying… “The past is history, the future is a mystery, but now is a gift. That’s why they call it the Present.” Well, the future is here now with all kinds of inspirational designs for cool things. Like this ManBike. It’s RIDICULOUSLY OUTTA CONTROL AND I WANT ONE!!!

Ok, I’ll just smack that onto my Christmas list for next year, but I hope you stick around and subscribe here for “all things cool.” Design and Inspiration. I’ll bring you some of the craziest future concepts ever. Guaranteed…

Concept Car for COPS…

att8

From my buddy Chcuk comes a series of cool shots. A new Cop Car Concept. Full of cool new cop gadgets, cop colors and crazy cop lights. Did I say “cop” enough.

At first glance, there are cool things and not so cool things, but the bottom line is I wouldn’t want to see this in my rear view mirror. Any cop for that matter, unless he was passing me at warp speed.

Sick beasty…

Big success for MOTOR4TOYS…

Big thanks to Dustin Troyan for putting this great show on. A fantastic turnout with awesome rides, all to benefit kids. It’s probably one of the best events in SOCAL. To get involved for next year, smack THIS.

It’s like THIS…

There’s a lot of things that I’m into. And it covers a gambit of subjects like you. From certain cars, books, foods, things to do on the weekend.

I like books by authors that make me think. Not novels, but books on Metaphysics. Elizabeth Towne, Robert Collier and Charles Haanel. They make me realize that there’s more to life than working your tail off to pay bills. And there is…

Movies like Blade Runner, Final Fantasy and Monsters Inc. Movies that make me realize how creative people really are. Concepts and ideas that surpass the norm.

Designs like that of Fisker, Luigi Colani, Syd Mead and John Berkey. Images that rouse the emotion to say “how did they do that?”

I guess you could call it inspiration. Things that inspire. Designs, Images, Films, Ideas, all that take you further that where you are. But you don’t to be a conceptualist to apply ideas like these. I mean, say you’re a guy working in a restaraunt? And you want to come up with a new way to sell certain dishes that make them unique. This is as valid a concept as anything else. But ideas are a dime a dozen. Applying them and having faith that they’ll succeed is the true challenge.

Ramble on, Fireball… Is this making sense to you? Find a quiet place to think and close your eyes. Concentrate on what you want for a few moments (see it) and then get silent. The answer will come. It’s how writers write, designers design and how dishes get dished. And it’s how things have been done since the writings of The Emerald Tablet in Egypt. Try it.

Your ideas are as strong as anyone else’s. See them through. Life is too short and goes to fast to have anyone tell you that it won’t work. It will.

A day to JOHNNYS…

So, off I went this morning to Johnny’s Auto Clinic to get my car Registered. You know, smog check and all that, when SNAP! As I was driving, something went afunk. As in, my passenger’s side hub-assembly started a clickety clacken.’

Johnny took one look and said. “You’re drivin’ a Death Trap, Fireball!” SO, several hours later (and after my car was smogged and passed and came back,) I was sportin’ TWO new hub-assemblies on THE MACH 3.Not bad for 130,000 miles, I suppose. I’m grateful I wasn’t stuck somewhere in the Mojave.

Goin’ to the shop is always interesting. Especially when it’s not my shop. But if there was ever a great place to take your MINI, or any car for that matter, then Johnny’s rocks. Da pros.

And now that I have TWO new hub a dub dubs, I’ll be off to Motor4Toys Sunday, a thank you very much.

While the wife’s AWAY…

The boys will… CLEAN? Yup.Well, the dogs don’t really clean, so I’m on my own.

Kathie left to go see her Mom in Chicago. Brrr. 20 degrees or so. While she’s freezing her rump, I’m going on a cleaning binge. So, off to the garage, back yard, front yard and such. Scrub a dub dub, Fireball’s in the dirt.

It’s good to clean. A spiritual thing. A House Dissection that clears your mind. Or is it that if your surroundings are dirty, chances are your mind is burdened? Cleaning helps to clean up the mental clutter, too. And there’s always things to clean. I’m amazed at how many t-shirts I have that I don’t wear. Gone. Things in the garage that I don’t and won’t use. Gone.

Ever heard of the Law of Use? It says, that if you’re not using something that you have, (as in you never will, like a storage unit full of stuff) situations won’t manifest so that you can buy new things that you CAN use.

So, get to it. Screw the New Year’s Resolutions. Make it now, and always. …Just don’t throw away anything that might belong to you wife without asking. Doh.

Book of the Week. Florence Scovel Shinn’s “THE GAME OF LIFE and How to Play It.”

From Concept to COMPLETION…

Big show. Big tear down. At about 11pm, I took these shots of the LA Auto Show. Mostly of the MINI Booth. It was impressive how everyone worked together to strike such a huge show. Like gnomes and elves, working in unison to pull everything down and trailer all the cars. We did the same, although our booth was much smaller than the OEMs.The MINI E was cozily eased into a huge truck with the BMW Hydrogen car.

Big thanks and gratitude to the thousands of enthusiasts that visited us this year. My voice is nearly gone, feet red hot and legs like dragging 200lb bags of concrete, but the chance to meet all of you and have fun was worth it. Especially all the hundreds of kids. Like little baby Raptor packs. I must have handed out 5,000 hot wheels, 10,000 posters and thousands of cards.

Big thanks to all our sponsors as well. Biggest and best show of the year with nearly 2 million in attendance. That’s a lot of traffic to appreciate.Have a great holiday, everyone!

Playin’ with a GEM…

This will be fun. What’s better than a “Green Vehicle?” A Fireballed Green Vehicle. So, with this as our template, we’ll be doing some really cool modded green cars this coming year at Cinema Vehicles. More photos at AutoblogGreen HERE.

Distributed by Chrysler, but built by GEM in Fargo! 30 mile charge. 25 mph. 2/4/6 seaters. 4-6 charge time. Doors, no doors.  Street Legal up to 35mph zones. They start at $8K and go up to $16K, but the customization will be the fun part. Unique to the owner. Sweet.
