For the LOVE of a CAR… from The Daily Driver Project

Potentially, one of the reasons you visit Fireball’s website is for your love of automobiles.

Most of us have a general love of the fantastic vehicular contraption, that especially in the Southern California area, has become iconic. Most of the car manufacturers have their design houses here. A large part of Hot Rodding began in Southern California.

For many, that general love focuses down to just one brand and may even focus down further to a specific vehicle.

That love for a specific vehicle can many times trace its roots back to what you grew up with or what your cool Uncle or Aunt drove. Maybe it’s the car you were brought home in from the hospital. Whatever that connection is, that car is sought out and purchased for you to enjoy.

Saturday I spent a fantastic time with some of my favorite people and checking out one of my favorite cars. It comes in many forms, a coupe, convertible, 4 doors, wagon, truck, and a van. I’m talking about the Chevrolet Corvair.

The South Coast Corsa Corvair Club or SCC puts on one of my favorite shows every year, the Ageless to Anarchy Corvair Show. This year 87 of those beautiful vehicular contraptions showed up to celebrate the love of the Corvair.

For many in attendance, it was their first car they ever owned and it was their dream car.

The Corvair is one of those unusual vehicles. A rear engine flat 6 motor and made from 1960 to 1969. It came in so many flavors and really was the only Big 3 built rear engine car. V8s were the flavor of the day or maybe the classic inline 6. It was just a strange but fun deal.

Whatever your vehicle is. Find it, enjoy it, drive it.

FERRARI CAR SHOW AT CAFFE LUXXE MALIBU – FIREBALL MALIBU VLOG 707 – Fireball hosts this Ferrari Car Show at Caffe Luxxe in Malibu with about 30 Stallions from The Ferrari Club of America and Actor Tony Dow from “Leave it to Beaver.”

Ferrari is an Italian sports car manufacturer based in Maranello.

Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1939 out of Alfa Romeo’s race division as Auto Avio Costruzioni, the company built its first car in 1940.

However, the company’s inception as an auto manufacturer is usually recognized in 1947, when the first Ferrari-badged car was completed.

In 2014, Ferrari was rated the world’s most powerful brand by Brand Finance. In May 2012 the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO became the most expensive car in history, selling in a private transaction for US$38.1 million to American communications magnate Craig McCaw.

Fiat S.p.A. acquired 50 percent of Ferrari in 1969 and expanded its stake to 90 percent in 1988.

In October 2014 Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced its intentions to separate Ferrari S.p.A. from FCA; as of the announcement FCA owned 90 percent of Ferrari.

The separation began in October 2015 with a restructuring that established Ferrari N.V. (a company incorporated in the Netherlands) as the new holding company of the Ferrari group and the subsequent sale by FCA of 10 percent of the shares in an IPO and concurrent listing of common shares on the New York Stock Exchange.

Through the remaining steps of the separation, FCA’s interest in Ferrari’s business was distributed to shareholders of FCA, with 10 percent continuing to be owned by Piero Ferrari.

The spin-off was completed on 3 January 2016. Throughout its history, the company has been noted for its continued participation in racing, especially in Formula One, where it is the most successful racing team, holding the most constructors championships (16) and having produced the highest number of winning drivers (15).

Ferrari road cars are generally seen as a symbol of speed, luxury and wealth.

DEFIANCE DODGE CHARGER! – FIREBALL MALIBU VLOG 658 – After cruising to Tony Dow’s house to snag his Corvair for an overhaul, Fireball spots cool cars in Malibu including the Mad Max looking Defiance Dodge Charger from the Syfy TV Show.

Defiance is an American science fiction western drama television series developed by Rockne S. O’Bannon, Kevin Murphy, and Michael Taylor.

The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions, in transmedia collaboration with Trion Worlds who have released an MMORPG video game of the same name that is tied into the series world and mythology.

The show takes place in a post-apocalyptic future on a radically transformed Earth containing new species, some having arrived from space, many others the result of haphazard contamination by Votan terraforming technology which has transformed native flora and fauna in unforeseen ways.

The story begins in the year 2046. Earth has been radically transformed by terraforming, causing changes in topography, the extinction of plant and animal species, and the emergence of new species.

The coastline of Antarctica became a Cancun styled tourist destination. The series follows Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler) and his adopted Irathient daughter Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), who have put down roots in Defiance, a city-state community where humans and several extraterrestrial races, collectively known as Votans, coexist over the partially re-built ruins of St. Louis.

The show follows Nolan, his adopted alien daughter Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), and the town’s new mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) in addition to an ensemble of actors portraying different characters in the growing town.

The series was broadcast in the United States on the cable channel Syfy and in various international markets. It premiered on April 15, 2013, in the United States and that same week in most countries that picked up the series.

Defiance was renewed for a 13 episode third season on September 25, 2014, which premiered on June 12, 2015.

On October 16, 2015, the show was cancelled by Syfy citing financial reasons after having completed its third season.

However, the companion video game continues to be supported; on March 1, 2016, Trion Worlds announced a major update for the game, promoted as season four of Defiance.

What’s it like to drive a 1965 CHEVY CORVAIR CORSA?

What’s it like to drive a 1965 CHEVY CORVAIR CORSA?

I’m in love with the funk.

What does that mean? It means that if you’ve got funk, then life is cool. But funk isn’t limited to cars – it can be food, travel or anything that life offers. But when you love something that much, by the Great Law, it comes rollin’ to you like a ship o’ gold.

Which is why “Funk” is this week’s Ride of the Week.

A few weeks back, I was at my Malibu Cars and Coffee show, mindin’ my own business when I spotted the funk. The actual funk itself! A 1965 Chevy Corvair in silver. But this was no ordinary Corvair. It was a Corvair Corsa – Chevy’s Funkadelic FunkMobile – and the owner was lucky Porsche mechanic, Clayton Greene.

As I approached Clay, my eyeballs canvased this silver car and transported me into a world of cool. It had been a long time since I’d seen a Corvair this nice. I immediately told him we needed to take a spin, so we set a future time, meeting at the Starbucks at Trancas for our inaugural roll out.

Right off the bat, Clay started telling me about the car and how he’s pretty much done everything himself. An air-cooled Flat6 with 140hp, Bored .060 over and with a big cam. Now, a car that light with 140 horses can be a bit of a wee screamer, but we managed to cruise Pacific Coast Highway up north to get some cool shots and film for my show.

“I’ve had it for under a year,” explained Clayton. “Found it on Craigslist out past Hesperia. I’ve always wanted a Corvair, but never found one in decent condition, or at a reasonable price.”

That is, until he found this lil’ rocket. But what does he love the best? Of course, the way it handles. Pretty much unlike any car on the road. The motor’s center of gravity is so low that it would be hard to push out this tail. And there’s enough room in the engine compartment to plop a sleeping bag and get some shut eye.

Being Clay’s daily driver, it was clear that the car needed to be in great shape mechanically. And Clay being a mechanic for Porsches, it became a forgone conclusion.

“I love driving PCH and the winding roads,” he said.

Fun in the Funk, I’d call it. But what was Clay’s best short story? Well, it was the shortest story I’ve gotten since starting Ride of the Week three years ago. It was getting this actual interview, he said.

Now, that’s a comment I don’t take lightly when someone mentions that driving with me was their best experience yet. It’s humbling and I feel tremendous gratitude for it. And although I haven’t said it enough, I’m thankful to the peeps at The Malibu Surfside News for having me take on this challenge. I get to meet cool people and take spins in the coolest town on the planet. And thanks to Clayton for rockin’ the Funk and allowing to sit shotgun.

And that brings me to Clay’s final thought. His favorite movie car? Can you guess it? Yeah, I thought so, but I’ll tell everyone else: It’s the
‘73 Ford Falcon XBGT from “Mad Max.” Although very cool, I’d like to see Max drive a ratted out Corvair next. That would be serious wheels, and I hope he’s up for the

And with that, my fine feathered roadsters, until next time: Stay positive and drive on!
