Day trip to IDYLLWILD for fun & chocolatey spicey goodness… @idyllwild

DSC00133 copy

A day or two ago, I grabbed the fam and we headed up to the mountains for a zoom in this week’s 2014 Caddy CTS. Although there was no snow and it was a 70 degree January day, we had an absolute blast. Yes, winter in Cali is a challenge…

First off, lunch was at the famous LA CASITA restaurant where they sell one of the best salsas I’ve ever had. A spicy creamy jalapeno mix that kicks just about anything, Mexican to Burgers. Get some if you like salsas and give a big wave to Roberto. They were awesome and tell ’em the Fireball sent ya….

A short skirt into town revealed a host of cool shops too, from gifts to chocolatey goodness.

It’s easy to forget what a day like this can bring. We get caught up in our day-to-day and taking time off with the family to go somewhere unique is so important. Anywhere. In fact, it’s better if you DO go somewhere you’ve never been as it’s more of an adventure of discovery. We call them Hat-Trick-Trips. 3 places in one day, although in the case of Idyllwild, it was lunch, chocolate and a playground.

Be sure to HIT THE JUMP for more shots below…

ARROWS… A SciFi HyperShort by Anthony Lawrence (Fireball Pop) #hypershort #shortstory #story #scifi

Today’s HYPERSHORT takes us across the Universe to something familiar…

“ARROWS”  by Anthony Lawrence

Once upon a time in the future, humankind finally knew it was finished.

The silvery Arrow 2 had escaped earth’s gravity and now began to pick up speed as it slipped silently through black space like the proverbial knife through butter.

Humankind had tried valiantly to combat climate change but it had waited too long. Now, all that remained was salvaging what they could through Project Arrowsmith. They had discovered a planet in the “Goldilocks Zone” that was habitable but it took their first crewless drone ship thirty years to travel the distance and send back the information that was needed.

The philosophic justification for the project to send six one-year-old infants across interstellar space to grow up on the way and enter a new world was based on Kahlil Gibran’s words from “The Prophet “.  “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.”

Donated by their archer astronaut parents, the children were kept in suspended animation inside specially designed capsules that would nourish them with food and data until they reached the age of ten. Their nannies were three robots that would care for their every need on humankind’s longest voyage into adulthood and into space.

Unfortunately, it was in the thirtieth year as they were approaching their new home, and the children had grown into men and women, one of the robots, “Alpha” came down with “isolation sickness”. It’s artificial intelligence developed psychosis and it destroyed the other two nanny-robots. The psychotic robot was threatening the lives of the six humans who had grown to adulthood on the protracted space journey as they now prepared for the long anticipated landing.

The adults who had been well trained by the robots across space were finally able to outwit the psychotic Alpha and were facing other deadly opponents on the new world. But the arrows were saved from death by unique beasts that closely resembled the dogs of earth. Although they were as large as lions, they seemed to share with their earthly counterparts the love of humans and ultimately became, once again, “Man’s best friend.”

ZERO – Today’s SciFi HyperShort by Anthony Lawrence (Fireball Pop) #scifi #sciencefiction #story #superhero

Today brings a Superhero adventure from the mind of Fireball Pop. And as always… a twist at the end. See if you can get your “claws” into this one…

“ZERO”  by Anthony Lawrence

This is Mark Begich for Internews Flashpoint bringing you what appears to be the final report on the disastrous results of the first APT Mission for the U.S. Civilian Space Program.  As everyone around the globe must know by now, Commander James Autry and his wife, Amy, were sent to the International Space Station on a three-year mission as the first APT (Astronaut Procreation Team) whose sole purpose was to provide humankind the first child born in zero gravity.

The entire world has followed this incredible event from the moment of conception to the birth of the little boy who was aptly named “Zero.” Amy Autry’s progress had been monitored constantly as she went about her business on the ISS while getting larger day-by-day and happily giving the entire world reports of her condition and the birth of a very special child.

We all remember those tense moments as Amy, enclosed in a specially designed space birth capsule, finally gave the world that beautiful and perfect ten-pound baby boy. Every step of the way was controlled by robotic instrumentation that was carefully overseen by Astronaut OB-GYN, Dr. Kate Arlington.  Because of the zero gravity conditions, a special vacuum system kept the sealed birth capsule perfectly clean and sterile.

But it was the tiny boy, Zero, himself that made the world look up with wonder and admiration. Not only was this miracle boy soon flying around the zero gravity environment with little concern for bumps and bruises, but upon being brought back to earth, he startled not only the scientific world, but all of mankind by revealing that being born in zero gravity had affected his entire bio-system. Mutating genomes and a totally different molecular structure seemed to create an anti-gravity aura around his body that allowed him, without wings, to fly like a bird.

By age four, Zero was flying everywhere in the super-hero suit awarded him by the U.S. government, in the colors of the endangered species and national bird, the Bald Eagle, black cloak with white hood, and yellow shoes like the eagle’s talons. Millions of photos were taken of Zero as he darted through the air in beautifully executed aerial maneuvers, cape billowing out like wings.

Then, came the great tragedy when the Bald Eagle was removed from the endangered list and once again became a game species.
