From WIKI… Leo Carrillo State Park is a state park of California, United States, and a component of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area preserving 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of beach at the foot of the Santa Monica Mountains. California State Route 1 runs through the park, where it intersects with the western terminus of the Mulholland Highway.
The 2,513-acre (1,017 ha) park was established in 1953. It is named for actor and conservationist Leo Carrillo (1881–1961), who served on the State Parks commission.
Leo Carrillo State Park offers swimming, surfing, windsurfing, surf fishing, and beachcombing. Beachgoers can explore tide pools, sea caves, and reefs. Away from shore there is a shady campground and back country hiking trails.
Leo Carillo Beach has been a popular location for photographers and movies. Movies filmed there include Gidget, Grease, 1984’s The Karate Kid, The Craft, Point Break, The Usual Suspects, Inception, Man from Atlantis and Mega Shark Versus Crocosaurus.
In the popular 1970s TV show The Rockford Files, starring James Garner, it was the first season’s opening scene of episode 1 (The Kirkoff Case) airing September 13, 1974.
It was featured in an episode of Huell Howser’s TV series California’s Golden Parks. The beach and cave were featured in the 1959 film”Journey to the center of the earth”
During the final scenes of the Tom Petty’s “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” music video, Petty is seen carrying Kim Basinger through a cave before placing her in the water.

From WIKI… A car club or automotive enthusiast community is a group of people who share a common interest in motor vehicles. Car clubs are typically organized by enthusiasts around type of vehicle (e.g. Corvette, Mustang), brand (e.g. Jeep), or similar interest (e.g. off-roading). Traditional car clubs were off-line organizations, but automotive on-line communities have flourished on the internet.
Classic Car Clubs have been a form of gathering car aficionados for many years that focus a passion for a certain type of car or driving activity.
Historically, car clubs refer to off-line entities, typically organized as non-profits and run by volunteers (who were most often elected). Some clubs were large enough to be run as a paid business with salaried employees; in the 1960s, some were sponsored by car dealers.
Many car clubs charge membership fees in exchange for benefits, such as publications and events. The publications typically contain photographs, messages from other members, service and parts advice, items and vehicles wanted and/or for sale, and historical material of interest to the membership.
Car clubs often host gatherings (called “meets”) which often also welcome interested non-members. Car clubs also may engage in other activities of various types, including races, cruising, shows, “mod” days when garage equipment and service tools are available for members to perform and assist each other with DIY work, or community service activities.
Meets are basically a time for the club to hang out with one another and to talk about cars and do normal stuff, such as bowling, eating, movies, etc.
Additionally, some car clubs have a “prospecting” status, where prospective members of the club meet with established club members, to assess their suitability within the club. During this time, prospective members will help work on club cars, attend events, and sometimes perform tasks; such as helping to park cars at a show, or assisting with ticket sales, etc.
Upon the completion of their prospect status, members will be “patched in,” whereupon they are considered full members of the club. In traditional car clubs in the US, this is typically signified by the awarding of a jacket or T-shirt with the club’s name and logo on the back, and the awarding of a bronze/aluminium “drag plate,” to be hung on the member’s car, displaying their membership status and club name. About Rodeo Drive from WIKI… Rodeo Drive /roʊˈdeɪ.oʊ/ is a two-mile-long street, primarily in Beverly Hills, California, with its southern segment in the City of Los Angeles. Its southern terminus is at Beverwil Drive, and its northern terminus is at its intersection with Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
The name is most commonly used metonymically to refer to the three-block stretch of the street north of Wilshire Boulevard and south of Little Santa Monica Boulevard, which is known for its luxury goods stores.
The larger business district surrounding Rodeo, known as the “Golden Triangle,” which extends from Wilshire Boulevard to Santa Monica Boulevard, is both a shopping district and a tourist attraction.
In 1906, Burton E. Green (1868-1965) and other investors purchased the property that would become Beverly Hills, formerly named Rancho Rodeo de las Aguas, with plans for a mixed-use subdivision with a branch of the Los Angeles and Pacific Railway running North on Rodeo Drive before turning west at Sunset Boulevard.
They platted the street that very year, in 1906. By 1907, 75×160 foot parcels on Rodeo were selling for $1,100 each. It became a bridle path in 1912, when the Beverly Hills Hotel was built on a former lima bean field.
By November 1925, similar lots were selling for between $15,000 and $30,000, almost double what they’d been selling for in September.

Best things to see in MALIBU… Malibu is a beach city in Los Angeles County, California, situated 30 miles west of Downtown Los Angeles. Known for its Mediterranean climate, a 21-mile strip of the Malibu coast incorporated in 1991 into the City of Malibu.
The area is known for being the home of Hollywood movie stars, people in the entertainment industry, and other affluent residents. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,645. Signs around the city proclaim “27 miles of scenic beauty”, referring to the historical 27-mile Malibu coast spanning from Tuna Canyon west to Point Mugu in Ventura County.
Most Malibu residents live within a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1), which traverses the city, with some residents living up to a mile away from the beach up narrow canyons.
For many residents of the unincorporated canyon areas, Malibu has the closest commercial centers and are included in the Malibu zip codes. Ride of the Week: Coffee, Cops and Cool Cars…
My rides take me many places, including all over SoCal to some of the automotive hot-spots which include museums, car collections, car shows and cool secret locations.
But the other day, I got to enjoy a drive down the highway to Caffe Luxxe in Malibu. A newcomer to the Bu, Caffe Luxxe wanted to show its appreciation for our small town by inviting Malibuites and guests for free coffee, representatives from the sheriff’s department to talk with, and cool cars to admire.
When co-owner Gary Chau and I first met, we hit it off with our philosophies regarding this little town and the positive flow of success. PCH is a vibrant, living breathing thread through the community, and creating a safe and secure lifeline for all inside it was a worthy goal.
So Gary managed to pull Capt. Josh Thai as well as reps from the Malibu City and Chamber of Commerce, and I grabbed some cars from The Automobile Driving Museum (a classic 1951 Packard Police Car and a 1987 Squad Car) and Wikd Kustoms scary ’57 Chevy to create a fun experience.
A crowd gathered outside and in, including actor Tony Dow and his wife, Gary’s incredible coffee team, and a host of Malibu leaders to hear Thai speak of his love for Malibu and keeping PCH safe. Lt. Randy Tuinstra and several other cops were on hand to express their concern for summer safety and what we can all do to make Malibu a fun place to be.
All this at a coffeehouse. But unlike most coffee spots in town, Caffe Luxxe feels like a local’s hangout. Although they could use some tropical plant to give the place some life, the clean design and smiles are abundant from Gary’s team of young coffeeprenuers.
This joe is really different, and don’t get me started on the almond croissants — so good, they’re bad.
Also on hand were filmmakers doing a documentary on PCH, the producer being Michel Shane, the father of Emily Shane, who was killed on PCH. Their purpose was clear: If PCH is to becomes safer, we all have to send a message.
And the message is that laws are not in place for limitation. They’re in place as tools to guarantee a joyful experience to all. It’s very hard to appreciate this town when you fly through it. Relax, enjoy, watch and absorb. This is Malibu and there’s nowhere in the world like it.
