DID YOU KNOW?? The bus used in the movie was actually two International trucks joined together by a fiberglass shell. The rear wheels were each five feet tall and weighed 1,100 pounds, plus the actual 75-ton Cyclops Bus was hung over a cliff by a 125-ton crane for long shots!! Two drivers were required to operate the bus, one in the front and one in the back, connected by a telephone! (And not an iphone, folks…)

PINK PANTHER, Redford, Ozzie, Movie Cars & NEW COLORING BOO
Welcome to AUTOMOTIVE POP CULTURE DAILY! Today… we get the PINK on with the all-new PINK PANTHER PANTHERMOBILE MASTERPRINT! Wouldn’t it be great to be a SPY and go up against the likes of Inspector Clouseau?? And KATO!! (“That… is not my dog.”)
BUT DID YOU KNOW?? The Panthermobile, a custom car from the “Pink Panther” cartoon series was Designed by Ed “Newt” Newton. Characterized by its distinctive pink color, long, anteater-like shape, and an exposed driver’s compartment positioned far forward. The “Pleasure Capsule” behind the driver’s seat featured pink shag carpeting, plush seating, a bar, faux fur pillows, a rotary phone, and a black and white TV. Due to the open cockpit and long front end, driving the Panthermobile was considered difficult, requiring the driver to wear a helmet and making visibility challenging. Based on an Oldsmobile Toronado chassis, the Panthermobile has a seven-liter V8 engine and front-wheel drive!

An awesome Hot Rod version of the Bus as are all of Fireball’s MasterSketches! ‘Cause you know, because more POWER is… well, MORE!!! Head into the Garage and CHECK IT OUT!!
DID YOU KNOW?? What do Richard Pryor, Rob Reiner and Ronald Reagan’s daughter Maureen have in common? They were all guest stars on “The Partridge Family.” The show hit the air in 1970 and quickly became a hit, transforming velour pantsuits, neck ruffles and David Cassidy into national obsessions. But the bus was originally a school bus used by the Orange County School District. Screen Gems, the company that produced the show, bought it for $500!! It was painted in a Mondrian-inspired style of primary colors, but after the show ended, wound up in a Los Angeles junkyard in 1987. The bus has been the subject of many unconfirmed sightings since then, including in a backyard in Northern California and a junkyard in upstate New York. YIKES, SCOOBY!

DID YOU KNOW?? The Hannibal 8 was a custom-built, rocket-propelled car that could raise and lower itself, shoot a cannon, and create smoke screens. It was designed to be destructive and help the villainous driver beat his heroic competitor. The Hannibal 8 was powered by a Corvair 6-cylinder engine and had a 3-speed manual transmission and cost $150,000 to build in 1964, which is equivalent to over $1 million today!! After Warner Brothers let the cars go, they were displayed at the Movie World Cars of the Stars Museum in Buena Park, California… but where are they now??

BONUS SKETCHES!! James Bond Porsche, ZZ Top and PINK MOKE!
I’ve worked on a lot of films over the years. And as cool as that may be, some of them never made it to the Silver Screen. Case in point… “SPY JINX.”
SPY JINX was an amazing concept and a great script. Basically, JAMES BOND meets LOONEY TUNES. Everything was shot in the real world, except for the Looney Tunes characters, and it was a Spy Thriller! Kinda… My job was to design the vehicles and I had a blast doing it over several months. Unfortunately, the plug was pulled and SPY JINX became SPY JAM. Same thing, but with a Basketball theme. Wait, what??
And that’s when things started to go south. Turned out that the studio wanted to do something with Shaq. THEN… they pulled the plug on that one and the movie became it’s final rendition, “LOONEY TUNES BACK IN ACTION.” And… it tanked. (Should stuck with the cars, folks.)
Today’s SKETCH was one of the original SPY CARS. A PORSCHE that folded, tweaked, turned and squeezed into all sorts of things. An extreme Bond Car that woulda been awesome. But noooooo…. All we got was this silly Fireball SKETCH. Oh well, lets move on…

Most people associate the color PINK with femininity. But here at FIREBALL, Pink is POWER. And to prove it (at least every now and then), Fireball SKETCHES a new Pink ride to remind us that the World of Color is a cool thing. What’s YOUR favorite and on what CAR? Maybe he’d bust one out?? And WHAT COLOR should be next??
DID YOU KNOW?? Pink is the color of a namesake flower that is a pale tint of red. It was first used as a color name in the late 17th century. According to surveys in Europe and the United States, pink is the color most often associated with charm, politeness, sensitivity, tenderness, sweetness, childhood, femininity, and romance. But now… PINK IS BADASS.

Back in the 60’s, there was the ultimate Car Enthusiast Cartoon… and that was WACKY RACERS. All the cars were kool, but the one that stood out the most was PENELOPE PITSTOP and her “Compact Pussycat!” Probably not a name that would go over well in today’s mindset, but back then, people didn’t get so upset. She would use her Personal Grooming Supplies against the other racers… to WIN!
