Swing on into Malibu’s WHEELS AND WAVES this Sunday morning…

That’s right, my Wheels and Waves Cars & Coffee event will be at the Malibu Country Mart from 7 a.m.-9 a.m. this Sunday, Aug. 20.

In past months, we’ve had more than 160 cars from all over Southern California converge into Malibu for this brisk morning show. Classic cars, muscle cars, vintage bombs, hot rods, trucks, one seriously massive military vehicle and some crazy rat rods.

Plus, we get the gambit of celebrities and we have been graced (for two hours) with Malibuite Dick Van Dyke. Past shows welcomed Keanu Reeves, Jonathan Banks, Tony Dow and others.

It’s a blessing to be able to create an event where people can share what they love most.

Our 21-mile stretch houses some of the most spectacular cars on the planet and we see them every day. It’s inspiring to pull them together and create a space where we can converse and swap stories of what we’ve seen, heard and built.

We’ve had Dow’s 1965 Corvair premiere at Wheels and Waves after a 50-year hiatus. We’ve watched a hand-built copper and brass rat rod, built by blacksmith Joe Magliato, enter.

We’ve heard a 600-horsepower Porsche built by WIKD Kustoms, who is now restoring Dow’s Corvair! We’ve watched Chuck Schauwecker’s Japanese hot rod called “Rodriguez” glide in, as well as many cars from The Automobile Driving Museum and Murphy Auto Museum.

Personally, I’ll be bringing in something special (a classic truck) from the Murphy this Sunday.

Plus, not only will we be premiering a new sound system from WIKD, but this month’s sponsor is Croftgate Santa Barbara; they make waterless car care products that are awesome.

They will be the reason that the first 100 cars will get free coffee, so be sure to thank them.

As always, I’ll have the “red bag of doom” filled with Hot Wheels where you’ll be able to reach in and hopefully not get bit by something!

The show is expanding from the Malibu Country Mart into the Malibu Village lot where there’s over 500 spaces. There’s plenty of room to house car clubs.

But I would be remiss to not thank those who already attend this awesome show.

Your passion for car culture is keeping it alive and helping it reach new, younger generations. The fun of seeing friends and making new ones expands not only our love of cars, but also of each other.

This is Malibu, and we only do things one way: the cool way.

DEFIANCE DODGE CHARGER! – FIREBALL MALIBU VLOG 658

DEFIANCE DODGE CHARGER! – FIREBALL MALIBU VLOG 658 – After cruising to Tony Dow’s house to snag his Corvair for an overhaul, Fireball spots cool cars in Malibu including the Mad Max looking Defiance Dodge Charger from the Syfy TV Show.

Defiance is an American science fiction western drama television series developed by Rockne S. O’Bannon, Kevin Murphy, and Michael Taylor.

The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions, in transmedia collaboration with Trion Worlds who have released an MMORPG video game of the same name that is tied into the series world and mythology.

The show takes place in a post-apocalyptic future on a radically transformed Earth containing new species, some having arrived from space, many others the result of haphazard contamination by Votan terraforming technology which has transformed native flora and fauna in unforeseen ways.

The story begins in the year 2046. Earth has been radically transformed by terraforming, causing changes in topography, the extinction of plant and animal species, and the emergence of new species.

The coastline of Antarctica became a Cancun styled tourist destination. The series follows Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler) and his adopted Irathient daughter Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), who have put down roots in Defiance, a city-state community where humans and several extraterrestrial races, collectively known as Votans, coexist over the partially re-built ruins of St. Louis.

The show follows Nolan, his adopted alien daughter Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), and the town’s new mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) in addition to an ensemble of actors portraying different characters in the growing town.

The series was broadcast in the United States on the cable channel Syfy and in various international markets. It premiered on April 15, 2013, in the United States and that same week in most countries that picked up the series.

Defiance was renewed for a 13 episode third season on September 25, 2014, which premiered on June 12, 2015.

On October 16, 2015, the show was cancelled by Syfy citing financial reasons after having completed its third season.

However, the companion video game continues to be supported; on March 1, 2016, Trion Worlds announced a major update for the game, promoted as season four of Defiance.

AUTOMOTIVE INSPIRATION is… Sharing life’s ride with those around us

As I’ve mentioned many times in this article over the last five years, I get the pleasure of taking unique people to unique places on my show that we shoot here in town. This past week, I got to do something really fun.

There are many cool automotive places in L.A. many people don’t know about and a good part of our show Fireball Malibu Vlog is to reveal those places and help expand our love of cars. So this week, I grabbed legendary “Leave It To Beaver” actor Tony Dow and his wife Lauren, met up at the new Caffe Luxxe for an amazing cup of joe and headed up PCH to the Murphy Auto Museum in Oxnard.

Now, if you didn’t know about the Murphy, I wouldn’t be surprised. But with our help, you’ll get a chance to peruse some of the coolest nostalgic cars that ever were. Head honcho David Neel runs the place and you can see him easily at a distance as he moves classic cars, muscle cars and even vintage trailers from spot to spot for coming weekend shows.

But the Murphy is different than most car museums, as it’s also an automotive storage facility. As in, if you have a cool car with no place to put it, you can rent some space where they not only keep your car clean, but share your perfect gem in a museum setting.

Other things Tony, Lauren, Ken Vela from WIKD Kustoms, my wife and I caught wind of were the classic Schwinn Bicycles, massive HO Scale Trail Set, tons of walk-in vintage trailers and a back shop where several classics were being worked on. Also, some great art on the walls from automotive designer, friend and confidant Mark Stehrenberger.

I’m very grateful to call David a friend and we’ve done many things together. I get a chance to drive cars from this museum down into Malibu for the car shows here in town, including my own, but also have had the opportunity to experience a massive Vintage Trailer Camp-out in Buellton in September with a great group with over 195 trailers.

But the day at the Murphy also included Tony driving two classic cars, thanks to David. An Avanti and amazing Dodge Fastback. Be sure to check out our show to see what we did, and if you love cool cars, let me know so we can take a spin by visiting www.fireballtim.com.

Much appreciation goes to the Murphy and all the docents — like Ken —  who make the place an enjoyable experience. Be sure to check out www.murphyautomuseum.org to see when the shows go off. From Air Cooled Vdubs and Corvairs to Studebakers, this place is a nostalgic car lover’s dream garage.

And if there are any of you celebs out there who want to take a spin with me to one of these cool spots, just reach out. I just took actor Jonathan Banks to The Automobile Driving Museum a week ago, but there’s also the Petersen, The Metropolitan Pit Stop, The English Car Company and many more. All you have to do is ask. Until then, I’ll keep driving.

Ride of the Week: Coffee, Cops and Cool Cars…

My rides take me many places, including all over SoCal to some of the automotive hot-spots which include museums, car collections, car shows and cool secret locations.

But the other day, I got to enjoy a drive down the highway to Caffe Luxxe in Malibu. A newcomer to the Bu, Caffe Luxxe wanted to show its appreciation for our small town by inviting Malibuites and guests for free coffee, representatives from the sheriff’s department to talk with, and cool cars to admire.

When co-owner Gary Chau and I first met, we hit it off with our philosophies regarding this little town and the positive flow of success. PCH is a vibrant, living breathing thread through the community, and creating a safe and secure lifeline for all inside it was a worthy goal.

So Gary managed to pull Capt. Josh Thai as well as reps from the Malibu City and Chamber of Commerce, and I grabbed some cars from The Automobile Driving Museum (a classic 1951 Packard Police Car and a 1987 Squad Car) and Wikd Kustoms scary ’57 Chevy to create a fun experience.

A crowd gathered outside and in, including actor Tony Dow and his wife, Gary’s incredible coffee team, and a host of Malibu leaders to hear Thai speak of his love for Malibu and keeping PCH safe. Lt. Randy Tuinstra and several other cops were on hand to express their concern for summer safety and what we can all do to make Malibu a fun place to be.

All this at a coffeehouse. But unlike most coffee spots in town, Caffe Luxxe feels like a local’s hangout. Although they could use some tropical plant to give the place some life, the clean design and smiles are abundant from Gary’s team of young coffeeprenuers.

This joe is really different, and don’t get me started on the almond croissants — so good, they’re bad.

Also on hand were filmmakers doing a documentary on PCH, the producer being Michel Shane, the father of Emily Shane, who was killed on PCH. Their purpose was clear: If PCH is to becomes safer, we all have to send a message.

And the message is that laws are not in place for limitation. They’re in place as tools to guarantee a joyful experience to all. It’s very hard to appreciate this town when you fly through it. Relax, enjoy, watch and absorb. This is Malibu and there’s nowhere in the world like it.

COFFEE, COPS AND CLASSIC POLICE CARS! – FIREBALL MALIBU VLOG 621

COFFEE, COPS AND CLASSIC POLICE CARS! – FIREBALL MALIBU VLOG 621 – Fireball heads to a morning event at Caffe Luxxe with Kathie, Ken & Tony Dow in Malibu for COFFEE, COPS AND CLASSIC POLICE CARS. Then goes house hunting.

From WIKI… A police car (also called a #policecruiser, #copcar, prowler, #squadcar, radio car or radio mobile patrol (RMP) ) is a ground vehicle used by police for transportation during #patrols and to enable them to respond to incidents.

Typical uses of a police car include transporting officers so they can reach the scene of an incident quickly, transporting and temporarily detaining suspects in the back seats, as a location to use their police radio or laptop or to patrol an area, all while providing a visible deterrent to crime.

Some police cars are specially adapted for certain locations (e.g. traffic duty on busy roads) or for certain operations (e.g. to transport police dogs or bomb squads). Police cars typically have rooftop flashing lights, a siren, and emblems or markings indicating that the vehicle is a police car.

Some police cars may have reinforced bumpers and alley lights, for illuminating darkened allies.

Terms for police cars include (police) cruiser, squad car, area car and patrol car. In some places, a police car may also be informally known as a cop car, a black and white, a cherry top, a gumball machine, a jam sandwich or panda car.

Depending on the configuration of the emergency lights and livery, a police car may be considered a marked or unmarked unit.

Best things to see in MALIBU… Malibu is a beach city in Los Angeles County, California, situated 30 miles west of Downtown Los Angeles. Known for its Mediterranean climate, a 21-mile strip of the Malibu coast incorporated in 1991 into the City of Malibu.

The area is known for being the home of Hollywood movie stars, people in the entertainment industry, and other affluent residents. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,645. Signs around the city proclaim “21 miles of scenic beauty”, referring to the historical 27-mile Malibu coast spanning from Tuna Canyon west to Point Mugu in Ventura County.

Most Malibu residents live within a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1), which traverses the city, with some residents living up to a mile away from the beach up narrow canyons.

For many residents of the unincorporated canyon areas, Malibu has the closest commercial centers and are included in the Malibu zip codes. The city is also bounded by Topanga to the east, the Santa Monica Mountains (Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and Woodland Hills) to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the south, and Ventura County to the west.
