A week in the 2019 CHEVY SILVERADO…

I never thought I’d be into trucks, especially with all the ECars out there and global consciousness becoming more aware of the environment. And I suppose that many would frown on the idea of having a gas-guzzling truck.
But let’s dive a little deeper into the 2019 CHEVY SILVERADO idealogy and try to identify if there’s any logical reason to have a truck other than hauling your crap around.
Trucks have always been a staple of society. Haulers that get the job done. But in recent years, they’ve become far more than that. In a world of feeling safe, a large truck is better than a tiny Fiat. But the ideology of trucks goes deeper for me than luxury and load.

I see trucks as a symbol of freedom. The ability to take off with anything you need and explore the open road. Sure, you can partially do that in a Hyundai, but if you’re on a budget, you have to stay at hotels or homes.
Done right, trucks are tiny motor homes. Think creatively and you can go out into the world for an entire Summer and have a great time sleeping in the back.

The 2019 SILVERADO at $47K, 21mpg and beast of a motor, you’re getting a level of glamping that’s far more then a tent. Plus, when you get home and have to hit Home Depot, Vons or take your Bike somewhere… you’re set. It’s all good.
Sure, if there were an Electric Truck out there, I’d consider it. But there isn’t… yet. And for those like me with an adventurous spirit and an adventurous wife, a Truck is perfect. Is it the 2019 Chevy Silverado? Not sure yet. Still need to drive the GMC and RAM. Stay tuned…

A week in the 2019 TOYOTA 86GT…

Who says that fun and fast can’t be had on a budget? Sure, new budget cars are not what they used to be, but since the average price for an average car is about $30K, we have to be realistic with the times.
I drive a lot of cars. Many of which are at $30K and many at $90K. But if you’re out there looking for some fun and don’t have a lot of dough to plunk, then the 2019 TOYOTA 86GT may just be one of your best options.

Manual all the way, this is a fun canyon carver and track car. Plus fully modifiable, the 86GT can put a permanent smile on your face for the day and give your passenger a combination of thrills and nausea (the good kind).

With fairly good gas mileage at 27mpg average and a 2.0l 4-cylinder boxer DOHC 16v, the 2019 Toyota GT whips up 200hp and is just enough to risk entering The Ticket Factory if you’re not careful. Best to get it in a color that doesn’t attract sharks.
Final assembly in Japan at their OTA Gunma Plant, the cars pepper the US as stepping stones to greater rides like the NSX and new Vette. But like I said, for fun on a budget, the 86GT is all sorts of mean and can’t be beat.

Luckily, I only had this car for a week and my right foot didn’t really get a chance to go into “Dark Force Mode.” But if you’re smart, you’ll head to Buttonwillow or Willow Springs to get your groove on.

In many areas, Toyota is still challenged in it’s design language, especially interiors. But the 86GT is working through its paces and the ’19 model is more refined and more fun. I’d give it a chance as a test drive and let it speak to you. Just bring a barf bag for the Salesman. 😉
